Eight volumes from the 1909-1910 Harvard Classics in a rich shade of maroon with faded spines to a warm brown. Published in New York by P.F. Collier in 1909 and1910, these books measure 10.75" across and are 8" tall. Books are the exact books as pictured and are cloth bound edge-to-edge for vertical and horizontal display.
In 1909 the President of Harvard University, Dr. Eliot, made claims that one could get a quality education by reading from three-feet-shelf of classics for 15 minutes a day, later changing it to five feet. Collier & Son challenged Dr. Eliot to create such a collection, the first collection of which was published in 1909. These Harvard Classics would make a fabulous addition to any farmhouse and rustic decor.
